Summer Exhibition: Sounds good

This exhibition is a collection of presents to the Nordic house.

All the items are all related to music. One of the items is the instrument “Lur” which the Nordic House received in 1975 from the Mora Ungdomsspelmanslag in Sweden.

A unique concert with the Greenlandic band Nanook 31st of August

The band Nanook (GRL) plays at the Nordic House 31st of august. Nanook made their first official track together called "Inuup Tarraa", which means "Shadow of Man" and is a track produced for Christian's short film titled with the same name.

Lunch-concert with band Silfurberg

Silfurberg consists of six members, a singer and five instrumentalists who have been playing together in various projects while studying at FÍH School of Music. This summer the band will play Nordic folk songs in their own arrangements all around Reykjavík. The arrangements will be in a nice, jazzy style so it should appeal to a broad audience. So be on the look-out and listen for Silfurberg this summer! They will play at the Nordic House th 30th of june at 12.00.

Friday June 25, at 5 o'clock: Interview with Sara Blædel, a crime novelist from Denmark

To celebrate the publication of an Icelandic translation of Sara Blædel's crime novel, Aldrig mere fri, the author will be interviewed at the Nordic House in Reykjavik on Friday, June 25 at 5. Sara Blædel was nominated the best Danish author in 2009 by Danish readers and her novels have been published to a great critical acclaim.

This is the opening lecture of a conference organized by The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies and Skálholt where the main focus is on seventeenth century Nordic literature.

Workshop and courses Thursday to Friday, at the Textile Centre in the old Womens College in Blönduós (Northwest Iceland). Blönduósi. In northwest Iceland is a deep tradition of sheep farming and working with the wool. The courses are aiming at exploring the tradition of working with wool fibers and the roots of the knitting/crocheting techniques. The Wool-washing factory of Istex (Icelandic Textiles – the Lopi manufacturer) will be visited as well as the Textile Museum.(www.simnet.is/textile).

Icelandic Dutch filmmaker Kris Kristinsson is showing his latest two filmsin the Nordic House 6/5 at 19.30. The premiere of the first two chapters of his new feature film "Hearts Know" filmed this year in Morocco and Iceland (32 min), and his debut film Ruta del Jaca (73 min) which is currently playing in movie theaters around Holland.

Matti Kallio and Roope Aarnio, two Finnish top folk musicians, are publishing their first duo album here in Iceland. The album, called 'Kjós', was recorded in Iceland in the beautiful old Reynivellir Church, in August 2009. The album consists of new original compositions in folk music style, played by accordion, harmonium and guitar.The concert on April 6th has free admission, the new album will be available for sale (cash only).

Johanna Koljonen will give a lecture about Nordic Avant Garde Lie Role-Playing 1.march at 16:00-18:00. Johanna Koljonen was born in Helsinki, Finland. She is a critic, author and broadcaster, hosting her own cultural programme, P3Kultur, on Swedish Radio. She is a pioneering critic of live role-playing games. She has contributed three chapters and the introduction to the forthcoming art book Nordic Larp (Markus Montola and Jaakko Stenros, eds).
