Workshop and courses Thursday to Friday, at the Textile Centre in the old Womens College in Blönduós (Northwest Iceland). Blönduósi. In northwest Iceland is a deep tradition of sheep farming and working with the wool. The courses are aiming at exploring the tradition of working with wool fibers and the roots of the knitting/crocheting techniques. The Wool-washing factory of Istex (Icelandic Textiles – the Lopi manufacturer) will be visited as well as the Textile Museum.(www.simnet.is/textile).
On Thursday participants are instructed in the basic wool working and spinning thread on a spindle. All will have samples of the various colors of the Icelandic wool. On Friday needle binding will be introduced which is a fabric creation technique that predates both knitting and crocheting. It is based on working with short pieces of yarn such as the handspun samples made the day before.

In the spring of 2005 the Icelandic Textile Center was founded in the town of Blönduós in Iceland. It's aim is to promote Icelandic and international textiles by holding seminars and to encourage research as well as education within the textile field of art and design. The center will also provide students, scholars and artists with working space to conduct their research and study-trips within textiles and to function as an international educational meeting point to hold seminars, counsels and classes on textiles.
