Heart Knows and Ruta del Jaca by Kris Kristinsson
Icelandic Dutch filmmaker Kris Kristinsson is showing his latest two films. The premiere of the first two chapters of his new feature film "Hearts Know" filmed this year in Morocco and Iceland (32 min), and his debut film Ruta del Jaca (73 min) which is currently playing in movie theaters around Holland.
Both films have a powerful soundtrack (male choir Fóstbreadur and singer Steindór Andersen in the Icelandic film), and both cross the boundaries between fiction and documentary, creating vivid portraits from three continents and cultures far apart.
In "Hjörtu vita" a bride (Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir) runs alone through the Icelandic countryside in a wedding dress under the ash of Eyjafjallajökull. But why is she so upset? The fantasies of many Icelanders shed a dramatic and often hilarious light on the cause. Featuring Kristján Hreinsson, Þór Tulinius, Rúrí and many other Icelanders.
Kris Kristinsson grew up in Holland as the son of an Icelandic father, architect Jón Kristinsson, and Dutch mother Riet Reitsema. He worked for 5 years in Tokyo as a translator of Japanese, and lived for 3 years in Peru where he made his debut film "Ruta del Jaca" which premiered last year at the Holland Film Festival with help of the Dutch Film Fund. He is now a full-time filmmaker based in Amsterdam, working on a few new projects of which "Hearts Know" is one.
