A TALK BY BEINTA Í JÁKUPSSTOVU

Introduced and moderated by Alyson JK Bailes, Adjunct Professor, University of Iceland
AT THE NORDIC HOUSE
Wednesday, 11 November
1200-1330 (refreshments served from 1130)

Beinta í Jákupsstovu is employed half time as an associated professor at the University of the Faroe Islands, while working at Molde University College in Norway.  She finished her studies at the University in Bergen in 2003, where she gained a DSc from the Institute of Administration and Organizational Science. She teaches now in the field of social science covering subjects such as political theory, comparative and international politics and globalization.

Beinta will talk about recent developments in the way that the Faroe Islands – which have far-reaching autonomy within the Kingdom of Denmark - handle their foreign relations, including internal working arrangements.  Among other things a commission is working in the Faroes to study options for possible changes in relations with the EU.  The Faroes are a close and friendly neighbour of Iceland and the issues they face will also shed light on the general issue of ‘small states' in the European system.

The meeting will be conducted in English, is free of charge, and open to all.
