"Behind the Mall"-photoexhibition

In relation with RIFF's theme: Food on Film

21.9.2009

Diana Shearwood is a photographer who lives in Montréal. Her recent project Behind the Mall [Fête mobile] is a portrait of our everyday "food landscape" as depicted on the increasing number of transport vehicles which inhabit our streets and highways. By focusing on this mundane yet colourful aspect of our environment, she encourages viewers to contemplate the industrialization of our food. In particular she wants to call attention to "food miles" defined as the total distance in miles a food item is transported from field to plate. A portfolio of images from Behind the Mall appeared in FOOD, a book of essays and photographs co-published by Alphabet City, Toronto and MIT Press, Cambridge.
