The Political Process in the Middle East - Palestine perspectives
Open lecture with Palestinian Foreign Minister, Dr Riyad al-Maliki, on behalf of the International Foundation of the University of Iceland and Iceland's Department of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday 15 December in the Nordic House in Reykjavik at 2:15 PM.
Dr. Riayd al-Maliki was appointed as foreign minister in May 2009 and is also the Palestinian Government's public spokesman. Previously he was the Palestinian Minister of Justice and Information during the period from 2007 to 2009. He has a Ph.D. in engineering from the American University and was a professor of Birzeit University in Ramallah for 15 years.
In 1991, Dr. Maliki established the Panorama Foundation, which specializes in human rights and democratic development, and he was the director of the foundation until 2007. He has received a number of peace awards, including The European Peace Price in Copenhagen in 2000, an award for work in favour of democratic development in the year 2004 in South Africa, and the Italian Peace Prize in 2005. Dr Maliki has written a number of articles and book chapters, and he writes a weekly column in a Palestinian newspaper Al-ayyam.
