Jóhannes Dagsson in Norrænahúsið, 9. July to 14. August.

The title refers to the relations that hold between different kinds of phenomena. Relations between the experience of landscape and the history of art, between colour and form, knowledge and perception, the general and the instance, the mundane and the charged moment, between irony and intimacy. The relations themselves are of dispersed kinds, reflexive, irreflexive, symmetric, asymmetric, transitive and between man and world.

The Finnish artist, Agneta Ekholm, opens an exhibition of selected paintings in our main entrance Gallery. when describing her artwork Agneta says:

My current work is by definition abstract and it is built entirely from imagination and engagement with my technical process. Each painting evolves on the canvas: no working drawings exist". Opening of the exhibition is on July 9th at 14.00.

Icelandic ceramic association launches an exhibition in the Nordic house in mars 2011 as a part of the exhibition series DesignMars 2011. This is the third time that DesignMars exhibition series is launched and this year with focus on the concept; Icelandic cuisine in-containers, referring to old Icelandic traditions in preparing and serving food in various cooking and serving containers, like pots, pans, plates and wooden urn-like objects.

Oddvin Horneland's landscape photos

The Norwegian photographer Oddvin Horneland works with photography in its pure form. Factors like choice of motive and photographic perspective, knowledge about photo-optical reproduction and translation of the motive into grey tones, and isolation from time and space through the exposure, play an important role in his photos. I Vesterveg is a collaborative venture between artists and museums on Shetland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway and Denmark. The project will disseminate information about the Nordic cultural inheritance and the North Atlantic area and give the participants inspiration for new contemporary artistic creation. RIFF-Reykjavík International Film Festival

RIFF unites it all: Screenings at downtown venues of a wide range of fresh films from the international film scene, midnight movies, concerts and hip bars.

The Nordic House has been a part of riff.is from the beginning and this year we have put up a Cinema Bar in our exhibition hall downstairs. There you can listen to records, buy popcorn and red vine as well as hang out in our sofas before the movie starts.
