Icelanders will soon have an excellent opportunity to get a better understanding of Grindadráp, or Pilot Whale Killing, the ancient tradition still very much alive in the Faroes.

From January 14th to February 12th , the Nordic House in Reykjavík is hosting an exhibition with photographs taken during a pilot whale killing which took place on the beach of Tórshavn 23 July 2010.

The Oxbridge society in Iceland in collaboration with the Nordic house is screening the film “Visit to Iceland summer 1935”. The film shows the trip of an Austrian group to Iceland via Copenhagen,

organized by Akademische Reisendienst Österreichs.

Before the movie there will be musical entertainment and it will be possible to by refreshments in Dill restaurant.

A Nobel Prize Celebration in the Nordic House

On Saturday, 10 December, the Nordic House will invite to a direct transmission from the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony for literature. The Nobel laureate this year is the Swedish writer Tomas Tranströmer. Mr. Tranströmer was born 15 April 1931 in Stockholm, Sweden. The Event starts at 3.30 PM

Icelandic-Scandinavian online dictionary ISLEX will be opened at the Nordic House

On the 16.th of nóvember the Icelandic-Scandinavian ISLEX online dictionary will beopened at
the Nordic House. Formal opening will be held at 4-4.30pm, after which light refreshments will be
served. ISLEX will also be holding a conference earlier on the same day starting at 1 pm at the

Völuspá - A Nordic Food Expedition

Völuspá - A Nordic Food Expedition is a joint project between Theatre Republique in Copenhagen, The Nordic House, and DILL restaurant in Reykjavik, and draws inspiration from the millennium-old texts of the Völuspá, as well as Nordic food culture.The show will be staged from October 23 to November 2 2011, and is aimed at adult audience. Maximum capacity for each show is 24 spectators. Völuspá - A Nordic Food Expedition is meant to be an extraordinary show, both in regard to food and drink, as well as in the intersection of a meal and the theatre.

Björg i Bú is a designcompany whose members are Helga Björg Jónasardóttir, Edda Gylfadóttir og Guðrún Hjörleifsdóttir. Recently they have been working on the food design projectÖrflögur.

Örflögur or Microchips are healthy fatfree potatochips; baked, dryed and seasoned with the magic of the sea – a product of nature. The container with the chips changes into a bowl and contains knowledge about the origin of the potatoes.

The project is done in cooperation with Innovit and Matís and was nominated for the design price of the Icelandic president, 2010. It has been supported by the fund for technological development, The womens business group and the Campaign for employment.

Solja Krapu - Stand up

The finnish/ swedish poet, Solja Krapu, will perform her Stand up at the Nordic house main hall on sunday night.
Krapu has published a number poetry books and is an active poetry slammer.
